Data Flow Comparison for ESP / Citrix / Web-based System

ESP (Internet-based System)

The communication path is direct - from workstation to data server and back.

Citrix System

The Citrix MetaFrame system uses Citrix Independent Computing Architecture, which enables client devices to shift application processing to the server. In a Microsoft Windows 2000 environment, this is done by grouping multiple servers into a 'server farm'. This system requires extremely high processing power in order to process scores of commands from multi-users at the same time. This impacts on the cost and the number of users allowed in the system, and hence the size of the ERP customer.

Web-based System

This system costs less than the Citrix system, but is less scalable. As can be seen, the communication path is also more complicated than the Internet-based system.
