Assistive Technology Assistive technology is any mechanical, electronic or computer-based equipment, non-mechanical or non-electric aid, or specialized instructional materials that persons with disabilities can use to assist them in learning, in making their environment more accessible, in competing in the work environment, in enhancing their independence, or in otherwise improving their quality of life.

Computer Access Devices enable persons with disabilities to use a computer. They include:


Augmentative Communication Device


Augmentative Communication Device is electronic (IconSpeak, TechFour, TechSpeak, BIGmack, One-Step Communicator, Step-by-step Communicator) and non-electronic devices (Clicker 5, Speaking Dynamically Pro, BoardMaker, Turn Talking) that provide a means for expressive and receptive communication for persons with limited speech.


Software For Special Needs Software For Special Needs are software tool which let disabled persons develop, grow or learn their abilities on:
  • Cognitive and Memory Development,
  • Perceptual Skills,
  • Language Development,
  • Exploration and Creativity,
  • Motor Skills,
  • Social Development.
B.E.L. provides software developed by rehab vendors including Don Johnston, Mayer-Johnson, Madentec, Crick, SofTouch and Simtech, Intellikeys and RJ Cooper. All these software are specially developed to support all or part of the following features:
  1. Single-switch scanning
    Designed for users with limited fine-motor control, single switch scanning lets the computer do the work of moving the cursor from choice to choice on screen. When the cursor lands on the desired choice, the user selects it by: triggering a single switch, clicking a standard mouse or touching the TouchWindow
  2. Teacher and student sections to adjust program features to support individual user needs.
  3. Setting difficulty levels
  4. Large size icon for touchscreen usage
  5. Adjusting volume or monitor settings
  6. On/off printing or recording
  7. Learning reinforcement
